Tim Supple's - Indian Midsummer Night's Dream (UK)

A Dash Arts Production

Twenty-three actors, dancers, musicians, martial arts experts and street acrobats from India and Sri Lanka perform one of the greatest ever productions of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy. Two years in the making, this glorious subcontinental ‘Dream’ is vivid, exotic and spectacular. As originally intended, this production toured India and the UK (including its sell out season in Stratford-upon-Avon) where it has been hailed by critics and generated a torrent of unprecedented critical acclaim.

Performed primarily in English, but also in Tamil, Malayalan, Sinhalese, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and Sanskrit to a backing of live music and song, this production draws on theatre traditions both ancient and modern, urban and rural, exquisite, sacred and rude. The astonishing Indian/Sri-Lankan cast brings fresh enlightenment to the famous story’s twists and contrasts between myth and reality, lovers’ trials and workers’ struggles, soaring beauty and truth.

Originally commissioned and presented by the British Council. Presented by arrangement with Arts Projects Australia.
